Eivor is preparing to sail again.

This time, the Viking warrior will be able to restart the journey to England while keeping much of the equipment and progression earned during a previous adventure.

Ubisoft announced on October 29, 2026, that Assassin's Creed Valhalla will receive its long-awaited New Game+ mode on Thursday, November 5.

The update arrives almost six years after the game's original November 10, 2020 release.

It also marks an unexpected return to a title whose major post-launch content had appeared to be complete several years ago.

New Game+ lets players restart Eivor's story

New Game+ is a familiar feature in role-playing games.

It allows players to begin the main story again while retaining selected elements of their previous character progression.

In Valhalla, the feature will provide an opportunity to revisit Eivor's journey from Norway to ninth-century England without rebuilding everything from scratch.

Ubisoft specifically mentions experimenting with new character builds and returning to England with favorite equipment.

The mode will also include dedicated New Game+ scaling.

That addition is significant because an extensively upgraded character could otherwise make the opening sections of the adventure considerably easier.

However, Ubisoft has not yet explained the precise scaling rules or the requirements for unlocking the mode.

The company says players will retain much of their progression, rather than explicitly confirming that every item and ability will carry over.

The complete list of transferable elements should become clearer when the full patch notes are published.

An optional progression system

The November update includes more than the ability to replay the campaign.

Ubisoft is introducing an optional progression mode in which Gear, Runes and Masteries all contribute to Eivor's overall Power.

This represents another approach to character development within Valhalla's existing RPG systems.

Equipment upgrades, abilities and character progression already play major roles in the original game.

The newly announced option is designed to connect several of those elements to Eivor's overall strength.

Ubisoft has not yet disclosed the exact calculation or explained every interaction with the existing progression mechanics.

The optional nature of the system is confirmed, meaning it will not necessarily replace the standard approach for every player.

Mithril and expanded Divine Gear upgrades

A new resource called mithril is joining the game.

According to Ubisoft, mithril can be used to improve Divine Gear and strengthen runes.

The update will also extend Divine Gear quality to all equipment items.

This should provide additional opportunities for players who prefer to keep using particular weapons and armor sets.

New runes are also confirmed, adding further possibilities for character customization.

Their individual effects and total number remain undisclosed.

The developer has not yet detailed how mithril will be obtained or the quantities required for upgrades.

These mechanics will need to be assessed once their complete rules become available.

A Master Assassin outfit inspired by Naoe

One of the new rewards is a Master Assassin outfit inspired by Naoe, a protagonist of Assassin's Creed Shadows.

The cosmetic addition creates a connection between two games with very different historical settings.

Valhalla follows Eivor's Viking adventures in ninth-century England, while Shadows takes place in feudal Japan.

The new outfit draws inspiration from Naoe's appearance without introducing her as a separate playable character in Valhalla.

Ubisoft has not explained how players will unlock the outfit.

It is therefore unclear whether the reward will be granted automatically or obtained through a specific challenge.

Additional rewards are planned, with further details expected in the patch notes.

New achievements and equipment storage

The update will introduce new achievements and a stash system.

The storage feature may prove useful for players who have accumulated extensive collections of weapons and armor over multiple years.

However, Ubisoft has not described how the system will operate or whether it will have capacity limitations.

The company has also not disclosed the number of new achievements or their precise requirements.

These details remain part of the forthcoming technical documentation.

Valhalla has surpassed 40 million players

Ubisoft is presenting the new update as a celebration of a major audience milestone.

The publisher says Assassin's Creed Valhalla has surpassed 40 million players.

That figure should not be interpreted as 40 million units sold.

Player totals can include people who accessed a title through different platforms and subscription services.

The statistic nevertheless demonstrates the substantial audience Valhalla has attracted since its original release in 2020.

Many existing players have already completed the main story, developed Ravensthorpe and acquired powerful equipment.

New Game+ gives those veterans a way to revisit the beginning of the adventure without abandoning much of their established character progression.

A surprising return after years of limited support

Assassin's Creed Valhalla received extensive post-launch support.

Ubisoft released multiple narrative expansions, additional activities and regular updates following the game's launch.

Its major narrative content concluded in 2022, followed by a final period of updates in early 2023.

New Game+ remained one of the community's most frequently requested features.

Its absence frustrated players who wanted to experience Eivor's full story again with their preferred equipment and abilities.

The October 2026 announcement therefore reopens a chapter of the game's development that many players considered finished.

Ubisoft also says community feedback on this update may inform future discussions about introducing comparable features into other Assassin's Creed games.

That is not a commitment to deliver New Game+ across the entire franchise.

November 5 release and remaining questions

Assassin's Creed Valhalla's New Game+ update is scheduled for November 5, 2026.

The game remains available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

Ubisoft plans to publish complete patch notes and additional information about current-generation console updates in the coming days.

The confirmed features include campaign replay with much of Eivor's progression, dedicated scaling, optional progression changes, mithril, new runes, expanded Divine Gear upgrades and a Naoe-inspired outfit.

Exact carryover rules, platform-specific details and unlock conditions have yet to be confirmed.

Nearly six years after Valhalla first launched, returning players will soon be able to experience Eivor's journey again while retaining a meaningful portion of the character they have spent years developing.
