Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 launches on Switch 2 alongside PS5, Xbox and PC
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launched on October 23, 2026, across current-generation consoles and PC. Its arrival on Nintendo Switch 2 is especially significant, ending a thirteen-year absence of new mainline Call of Duty releases from Nintendo systems.
Nintendo players have waited a long time for another major Call of Duty. The last new mainline release on the company's hardware was Ghosts for Wii U in 2013. Modern Warfare 4 finally changes that, launching on Nintendo Switch 2 alongside PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Infinity Ward partnered with Digital Legends to develop the Switch 2 edition natively. It includes the new campaign, competitive multiplayer and the DMZ extraction experience, giving Nintendo players access to the title's main gameplay offerings.
That does not automatically mean identical technical performance across platforms. Activision has described the content and development approach, while specific rendering and frame-rate comparisons require more detailed evidence.
The Korean Peninsula becomes the centre of a global war
Modern Warfare 4 opens with North Korea launching a large-scale invasion. Private Park, a young South Korean soldier, experiences the chaos on the front lines while his unit struggles to survive a rapidly escalating conflict.
The campaign expands beyond Korea through operations in New York, Paris and Mumbai. These locations bring different types of combat, from urban engagements to nighttime raids and high-speed pursuits.
Captain Price follows a separate storyline. Operating outside the military institutions he once served, he pursues a personal mission involving a weapon capable of changing the balance of power.
The two narratives eventually intersect, tying the soldiers' immediate struggle to the larger political and military crisis.

Competitive multiplayer and extraction
The multiplayer component introduces twelve new 6v6 maps at launch, alongside larger environments designed for combined infantry and vehicle engagements.
Infinity Ward emphasises responsive movement and player control, with maps intended to support both close-quarters encounters and longer-range fighting.
DMZ adds a different kind of challenge. Players deploy into contested territory to recover valuable technology, complete objectives and escape with whatever they manage to secure.
Story Missions and Dynamic Operations sit alongside player encounters and continuing progression. Choosing when to extract is a central part of managing the risks of each deployment.

What the Switch 2 release establishes
The Nintendo edition was playable ahead of launch through an open beta beginning August 28. Players could experience multiplayer, the Entrenched campaign mission and Warzone Resurgence without needing to preorder.
Activision also confirmed that the Nintendo promotional screenshots were captured in-game on Switch 2.
Those demonstrations establish that a native version was developed and publicly shown. They do not, by themselves, establish a locked frame rate, a specific rendering resolution or equivalent graphical settings to PlayStation and Xbox.

Modern Warfare 4 does not support PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, making the current-generation transition explicit.
The game also launched as a standalone purchase rather than appearing immediately in Xbox Game Pass. Activision says it will not enter Game Pass until the 2027 holiday period.
Modern Warfare 4 is available now on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam, Battle.net and Xbox on PC.
