CONTROL Resonant Sells Over One Million Copies in Three Weeks, Setting a Remedy Record

Remedy Entertainment has reached an important commercial milestone. On October 15, 2026, the Finnish developer confirmed that CONTROL Resonant had surpassed one million copies sold worldwide, just three weeks after launch. No previous Remedy game had reached the threshold this quickly. The result is encouraging for an ambitious self-published production, although its profitability has not yet been established.

CONTROL Resonant Sells Over One Million Copies in Three Weeks, Setting a Remedy Record

Remedy's Fastest-Selling Launch Ever

CONTROL Resonant has quickly established a new record for its developer.

Released September 24 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Remedy's latest game passed one million worldwide sales on October 15.

The company officially describes it as the fastest-selling launch in its 31-year history.

The number represents copies sold rather than free downloads or players who simply tried the game.

The achievement arrives at a significant moment for Remedy, which is expanding its established franchises while assuming more responsibility for publishing its own games.

CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon has described the result as a very strong start.

A Faster Start Than Alan Wake 2

Alan Wake 2 provides useful context for the new milestone.

The horror game released in 2023 took approximately two months to reach one million copies sold.

CONTROL Resonant reached the same threshold in three weeks.

That is an important improvement for a studio known for distinctive storytelling and ambitious design rather than consistently enormous launch sales.

However, the comparison concerns initial sales velocity.

It does not establish that CONTROL Resonant has exceeded Alan Wake 2's lifetime sales or will necessarily generate more profit.

Dylan Faden Takes the Lead

CONTROL Resonant continues the universe established in 2019 while changing its protagonist.

Players now control Dylan Faden, the brother of the original game's protagonist Jesse.

The adventure unfolds across a version of Manhattan devastated by a paranatural crisis.

Buildings defy gravity, city streets distort and supernatural creatures occupy the environment.

Remedy retains its interest in mysterious organizations, impossible phenomena and stories where reality becomes increasingly unstable.

However, the scale of its environments has changed significantly.

Instead of focusing primarily on the enclosed architecture of the Oldest House, the sequel opens up interconnected areas of Manhattan with greater verticality and environmental variety.

A Greater Emphasis on Action RPG Systems

Combat has also changed.

The original Control relied heavily on firearms and Jesse's telekinetic powers.

CONTROL Resonant places greater emphasis on close-range encounters.

Dylan uses the Aberrant, a supernatural melee weapon capable of changing form.

Its different configurations support varied approaches to combat.

The game also offers expanded character progression.

These changes demonstrate that Remedy was not simply repeating the 2019 formula with a different setting.

The developer revised several central gameplay systems while preserving the series' supernatural atmosphere.

A Significant Result for a Self-Published Game

CONTROL Resonant holds an unusual position within Remedy's business strategy.

The company publishes the sequel itself, with co-funding from Annapurna Pictures.

Remedy therefore maintains a direct role in the franchise's commercial release.

That differs from Alan Wake 2, which was published by Epic Games.

Reaching one million sales is consequently also an important test of Remedy's ability to handle a major project under its own publishing model.

Self-publishing can offer greater control and a larger share of certain revenues.

It also brings commercial responsibilities and financial risks.

Physical Editions Are Now Available

The sales milestone coincided with another release.

Physical editions of CONTROL Resonant arrived on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 15.

A standard version includes the game.

A SteelBook edition adds a collectible case, three art prints and a key-art poster.

Collectors now have an additional way to purchase the title.

However, Remedy has not disclosed what proportion of its reported sales came from physical copies.

The announcement also does not break down sales by platform.

One Million Sales Does Not Yet Establish Profitability

The milestone is encouraging, but sales figures alone do not reveal a game's financial performance.

Determining whether CONTROL Resonant has recovered its costs would require information about its development budget, marketing expenses and net revenue after partner and distribution costs.

Remedy did not provide those details in its October 15 announcement.

It would therefore be premature to claim that the launch has already generated a confirmed net profit.

The company is scheduled to publish its third-quarter business review on November 3, 2026.

That report may provide additional financial context, although its contents cannot be assumed in advance.

What Comes Next for Control?

Gaudechon considers the launch evidence that Control can reach a wider audience.

He also emphasizes Remedy's commitment to its two established franchises, Control and Alan Wake.

The company intends to keep developing their long-term potential.

However, the sales announcement does not confirm another Control sequel or provide a schedule for an unannounced project.

For now, the achievement stands on its own.

CONTROL Resonant has reached a commercial milestone faster than any previous Remedy release.

After years of building ambitious and unconventional games, the Finnish studio has established a new benchmark for its commercial growth.
