iQOO Neo12 brings a 185Hz display and built-in fan to competitive mobile gaming

iQOO launched the Neo12 in China on October 28, 2026, combining a 6.83-inch 2K OLED display capable of 185Hz with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and an active cooling fan. A separate Q3 gaming chip handles additional visual processing, while a 9,000mAh battery targets longer sessions. Official pricing begins at CNY 4,399, with some Chinese buyers eligible for a substantially lower promotional price after discounts and government subsidies.

iQOO Neo12 brings a 185Hz display and built-in fan to competitive mobile gaming

A cooling fan inside a smartphone is still unusual enough to define an entire product. With the Neo12, iQOO is betting that maintaining performance matters more to mobile gamers than producing an impressive benchmark score for a few seconds.

The phone combines a high-end Qualcomm chipset, a dedicated graphics enhancement processor and a 185Hz screen. Its cooling system is designed to address the heat generated when those components operate under sustained load.

A 185Hz display makes a specific promise

The Neo12 features a 6.83-inch OLED display with a 3200 × 1440 resolution and a maximum 185Hz refresh rate.

At 185Hz, the interval between display refreshes is approximately 5.4 milliseconds, compared with 8.3 milliseconds at 120Hz.

That difference can improve visual responsiveness, but only when the game, operating system and rendering hardware support the required performance.

iQOO claims that more than fifty games have been optimized for native operation at up to 185 frames per second. The claim should not be interpreted as universal support across Android gaming.

The panel uses Visionox display technology and a new light-emitting material marketed as Sky Mirror. iQOO advertises up to 2,200 nits of full-screen peak brightness under its specified testing conditions.

The Q3 chip does not replace the Snapdragon GPU

The main Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor handles ordinary application and game execution. A separate Q3 gaming processor provides image enhancement features, including upscaling, frame interpolation and ray-tracing-related effects in supported titles.

These operations are not interchangeable with native game rendering.

Frame interpolation can create additional displayed frames between rendered images, making movement appear smoother without increasing the underlying simulation rate to the same level.

That distinction matters in competitive gaming. A higher displayed frame rate does not necessarily mean faster input processing or more frequent game-state updates.

iQOO also promotes combinations of 2K visual enhancement and higher frame-rate modes. Availability depends on the game and its specific compatibility profile.

Active cooling is intended to sustain performance

The Neo12 uses a 59-blade internal fan measuring 17mm across and 4mm high.

It operates alongside a vapor-chamber cooling system and additional heat-transfer fins. iQOO claims approximately 10% more airflow and improvements in selected thermal measurements compared with its previous design.

The practical purpose is to reduce thermal throttling during prolonged gaming sessions.

The trade-offs are familiar from other actively cooled electronics: noise, power consumption, mechanical reliability and airflow management.

Independent testing will be needed to establish whether the phone sustains its advertised gaming performance without excessive fan noise or uncomfortable surface temperatures.

A large battery supports the gaming focus

The 9,000mAh battery uses silicon-anode technology and supports 100W wired charging.

iQOO also offers direct power-supply functions designed to reduce certain battery-related thermal losses while the phone is being used during charging.

Battery capacity alone does not establish actual gaming endurance. Maximum refresh rates, screen brightness, cooling activity and GPU load will all influence runtime.

The Neo12 weighs between 225g and 229g depending on the finish. Its thickness is approximately 8.5mm on the black and blue versions.

Available in China, with no European launch confirmed

The phone is offered in five memory and storage configurations, beginning at 12GB RAM and 256GB storage and reaching 16GB RAM with 1TB storage.

Official pricing starts at CNY 4,399. The widely reported CNY 3,149 launch figure requires a combination of promotional reductions and Chinese government subsidies.

Sales began in China on October 28, but iQOO has not confirmed European pricing or availability.

The Neo12 is an interesting attempt to make sustained mobile gaming performance a hardware priority. Its success will ultimately depend on real frame-rate consistency, thermal behavior, fan noise and battery endurance rather than headline refresh-rate figures alone.
