Kingdom Hearts IV is set for late 2027, and Nomura says a delay is not happening

Tetsuya Nomura did not wait for Kingdom Hearts IV delay speculation to become a year-long talking point. Once Square Enix announced a late 2027 launch window, he addressed the immediate doubts at D23: the plan, he says, is staying in 2027.

A much firmer date than Kingdom Hearts IV had before

Square Enix's August 16 announcement lists Kingdom Hearts IV for late 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Xbox on PC, Steam and the Epic Games Store. No exact month or day has been announced, and pricing is still undecided.

That is considerably more information than the project carried when it was revealed in April 2022. Kingdom Hearts IV originally had no announced platforms or release timing at all. Its platform lineup became official in June 2026, followed by the late-2027 window at D23.

The latest trailer also brings Pixar's Coco into the game. Sora is shown in the Land of the Dead, while Square Enix continues to position Quadratum, the modern metropolis where he awakens, as the starting point for the new story.

Nomura is putting unusually direct language behind 2027

At the Deep Dive into Kingdom Hearts panel, Nomura said he had already seen comments suggesting the announced window might eventually slip. His response was short: “that is not happening.”

Co-director Tai Yasue backed up the same target by saying development was progressing smoothly and describing the team's confidence in making 2027 as effectively 100 percent. Nomura also said the game's marketing campaign has only just started.

Those comments do not turn a release window into an immutable date. They do show how strongly the people directing the game are publicly committing themselves to the schedule Square Enix has now announced.

There is still plenty Square Enix has not dated

Late 2027 remains a window rather than a release date. Square Enix has not named a month, day, price or launch editions.

The official product information currently lists the release period simply as late 2027.
