The doors of Witchbrook College finally have an opening date. Chucklefish announced during the October 28, 2026 Nintendo Indie World presentation that Witchbrook will launch on January 28, 2027.

The announcement follows years of development and several adjustments to the game's release plans. It also introduces a newly confirmed PlayStation 5 version, which will launch alongside PC, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

The digital edition will cost $24.99 in the United States, with regional pricing to be announced closer to release. The game will also join Xbox Game Pass on launch day.

A long development journey reaches a new milestone

Witchbrook was first teased in 2017. Since then, the project has evolved considerably, adopting a detailed isometric pixel-art presentation and expanding the scope of its town and school activities.

Previously planned for 2025 and later 2026, the game is now scheduled for January 2027.

Chucklefish explains that the additional development time has allowed the team to refine its systems and build a richer world. The project is being developed with support from Robotality.

The announced January date is the current official schedule, not confirmation that the finished game is already available.

Studying magic at Witchbrook College

Players enter Witchbrook College as a witch-in-training in the seaside town of Mossport.

Classes and assignments cover subjects including alchemy, astrology, tarot and rituals. Progressing through the curriculum allows students to expand their knowledge and unlock spells.

The latest trailer also reveals potion-making, magical creatures and new spellcasting mechanics.

Among the newly shown characters is the school's ghostly Chancellor, nicknamed Deadmaster by the students.

Chucklefish has also introduced Kiara Chandra, a postgraduate student with a strong interest in the arcane arts and a distinctly sarcastic personality.

These additions reinforce the game's emphasis on character relationships alongside academic progression.

Learning new abilities and passing exams

The college includes a knowledge and examination system intended to connect learning with the acquisition of magical abilities.

Students will be able to develop their skills and apply magic beyond the classroom, including through work that benefits the local community.

Although the latest footage reveals more of these activities, Chucklefish has not yet published a complete breakdown of every progression requirement or spell.

The game therefore promises an interconnected magical education system, while some of its deeper rules remain to be demonstrated.

Life beyond the classroom

Mossport is designed as a community with activities independent of formal schooling.

Players can meet residents, form friendships, pursue romances, participate in clubs and attend seasonal events.

Optional activities include fishing, birdwatching, bug-catching and exploring the surrounding countryside.

A personal woodland cottage provides opportunities for home renovation and gardening. Character customisation includes clothing, hairstyles and accessories.

Players will also be able to establish a magical business serving the town, connecting their supernatural abilities with everyday community life.

Four-player cooperation and launch details

Witchbrook supports online cooperative play for up to four players.

Chucklefish has confirmed ten launch languages, including French, English, German, Spanish and Japanese.

Standard and Collector's physical editions are planned for a later date. Details about their platforms, contents and release schedule have not yet been finalised.

Witchbrook is scheduled to launch digitally on January 28, 2027, for PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
