In most horror games, finding a valuable object means picking it up and placing it in an inventory. R.E.P.O. makes the process far more complicated.

A heavy piano may require multiple players to move it. A fragile piece of pottery can become a serious problem when carried through a narrow corridor. And everything becomes substantially harder when a monster interrupts the operation.

That combination of horror and chaotic cooperation is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027, developer semiwork confirmed during the October 28, 2026 Indie World presentation.

R.E.P.O. has been available in Steam Early Access on Windows PC since February 26, 2025. The Nintendo version will expand the game's platform availability, although its exact release date remains unspecified.

Six robots on a dangerous extraction mission

R.E.P.O. supports online cooperative sessions for up to six players. Participants control small robots working for a mysterious computer intelligence.

Their employer sends them into abandoned, haunted environments to recover objects with significant monetary value.

Each mission involves locating valuables, transporting them through dangerous areas and bringing them to an extraction point.

The difference from a conventional looting game is the physical handling of those objects. Players use a grabbing tool, but the items still behave according to the game's physics simulation.

Heavy furniture can be difficult to manoeuvre, while fragile objects require careful handling to avoid collisions.

Larger items may require several players to coordinate their movements, turning a simple extraction objective into a logistical challenge.

Physics creates unpredictable situations

R.E.P.O.'s physics system also affects the monsters inhabiting its environments.

That creates opportunities for unexpected interactions between creatures, players and surrounding objects.

The level layouts are procedurally generated, providing different arrangements and challenges across missions.

The result is a game where success depends on more than identifying a safe route. Players must also account for how their actions might affect the environment and the valuable cargo they are carrying.

Moving too quickly can endanger fragile valuables, while spending too much time in one area increases exposure to hostile creatures.

Finding the right balance between caution and speed is part of the challenge.

Proximity voice chat makes teamwork essential

The game includes proximity voice communication, allowing players to talk based on their location in the environment.

This makes positioning important for more than movement and survival. Members of a team who become separated may also lose the ability to exchange information easily.

Coordinating the transport of a large object becomes harder when different players have incomplete information about nearby dangers.

The communication system also contributes to the game's mixture of tension and humour, particularly when a carefully planned operation suddenly collapses.

Successful missions fund future upgrades

Players can spend the resources earned from successful extractions on robot upgrades, equipment and weapons.

These purchases can improve the team's chances of surviving increasingly demanding missions.

Since its Early Access launch, semiwork has released updates adding equipment, customisation options and balance adjustments.

The PC edition remains under active development, making it important to distinguish its existing content from features that may be included in the eventual full release.

What has Nintendo confirmed?

The Nintendo Indie World announcement confirms that R.E.P.O. will launch on Switch 2 in 2027.

No specific month, day or console price has been announced.

Cross-platform multiplayer between PC and Nintendo Switch 2 has not been confirmed, so players should not assume the two editions will support shared sessions.

Semiwork also has not clarified whether the Switch 2 release will coincide with version 1.0 or follow a separate development schedule.

Official performance targets, including resolution and frame rate, remain unavailable for the Nintendo edition.

For now, the announcement establishes the next destination for R.E.P.O. while the existing PC version continues to evolve through Early Access.
